Leadership Vision Statements propellers Forward

In a recent "Leadership without a compass" ezine, we presented the basic logic for having a "Vision Statement". The purpose of this article is to discuss how a vision statement reflects the inner strength and leadership of items to consider in developing this important organizational component.

Effective leaders have historically been a visionary. Deposited in any effort, have intuitive abilities, intellectual and instinctive to see beyond the horizon to the other futuristic. This ability to anticipate potential unintended consequences and gives them a positive understanding of the present and a future vision. Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, are examples of these visionaries.

Similarly, companies that do not have a continuous updating, reflecting considerable vision of innovation and inspiration, fall into oblivion. Examples may include U.S. Steel, RCA, and various car manufacturers.

The vision of Microsoft in the '80s vision of "a PC in every home running Microsoft software is an example of a vision that expresses the best possible result. Utopian? Maybe. However, it is also an example of we can do , the characteristic spirit of entrepreneurship to the world of software giant # 1. This is a vision that is better than what most believe possible, but not fancy or ridiculous inspires and encourages all parties involved to stretch themselves.

A strong vision statement opens the collective eyes of an organization that is possible. Yes, the purpose of a vision statement is to inspire, motivate, guide and inspire. The most important thing, provides a common sense of direction. Everyone knows where the company is headed.

Employees sometimes describe works for a company without a vision. It 's like to be the headless horseman. The lack of direction, commitment, and therefore not a community. These individuals do not verbalize frustration by asking: "why are we here and where is it going now?".

The vision statement also serves as a platform for leadership and decision-making management. The decisions are reflected by the mirror image of the "non-execution of this early vision of the choice?" If the decision does not advance the vision, the obvious question is "why we are going in this direction?" .......
