The charm of the Celebrities

As our fascination in watching an ant (or the entire ant hill for that matter) squirm when you tilt the lens magnification thus towards the sun, so too goes the fascination with celebrity. As the last episode of American Idol performances, the average person just wants to be recognized and what better way to become a 'star'. Many of us dream of it, very few of us to achieve peace and for the lucky (or unlucky depending on your perspective) to be under the magnifying glass of celebrities seem to have great rewards.

Never having been one of my celebrity, even if they are a little 'a' top brass' in my home town (smugly buffs nails on shirt), I must say that being a celebrity does not seem all that bad. I would take the money and gift bags and free stuff and umm I said the money? ... Yes, I would greatly enjoy the benefits of 'celebrityhood' (or is celebritydom?) Every day, but how many of us could live up to that control?

To have your every move recorded, scrutinized your relationships, your little slip-up or failure discussed by millions of people (for those of us with large families already have a taste of this ... Thanks Mom!). Now I know some of you are thinking about money and benefits would balance this out, but think of the freedom of anonymity that you have now, you can choose your nose in public if you want, you can get a few stares, but 'the event 'will not be recorded and collected as well (pun intended, Ha!) from time immemorial.

But why are we so fascinated? It has the charm to help us feel better about ourselves? Or is triggered by envy? Reasons for any celebrity news and gossip is big business and the latest news to be available from our hand to everyone and their grandmother has a blog about a celebrity or other. Many of us readily denounce gossiping in our daily life is still feed our guilty pleasure blog linking to the 'most hated celebrities' last to see the latest comments on this or that evil person.

Our celebrities have become so poor fried ants. We feel superior, as we sit at our desks and look with pity and contempt, at the latest young celebrity to end up in jail or forget the pants or fall flat on their face drunk. But, alas, fame and celebrity are synonymous, and as Newton said every action has an equal and opposite reaction so did the money and benefits lead to curiosity and paparazzi. Now ... since it's been over an hour since I checked that blog, now I'm off to see what Britney is up to .......
